Subject: SE A Plea To You All
Skills Exchange and a Community Idea
Greetings to all of you in the Skills Exchange. I have to admit that I was slightly sceptical at first but am delighted to have been proved wrong. There are lots of nice things I could say – and loads of you whom I would like to thank. BUT there is one thing I have noticed that really needs everyone think about and talk about.Karina is clearly quite a key figure in the skills exchange and works like a Trojan to encourage everyone. BUT and this is a BIG But, she also spends a huge amount of her time earning Gems (or “winkies” as a few of us call those little tiddlywinks) She then uses up all her winkies for things like The Summer Gathering and so has virtually none left for her own needs. One simple solution would be to create a kind of Community Chest of winkies, which could then be made available for events like the summer gathering or any other events that you might want to propose. There is a cost of course. But the good news is that it is a tiny cost, one you will hardly notice at all. The Community Chest could be filled with a donation of just ONE GEM from each of the Skills Exchange members. Think of it as your annual fee for having access to so many skills, which could easily cost you a small fortune if you had to buy them on the open market. If you are in favour could you do a simple thing for me please. Just return this email with a couple of words added – basically saying: “I agree, count me in for ONE GEM”Then we can make sure that Karina has enough winkies for things like the Summer Gathering without bankrupting her own meagre stock. If you would also like to suggest other projects that would benefit from being helped then do drop Karina a note. After all I don’t know of anyone else with the sheer stamina and foolishness to take on as much as she does! And before I forget – Thanks to everyone who has made the first eight months of the scheme such a success. Apart from anything else I have met more people in that time than in the past few years – ‘tis almost as if there IS a community here in Bridgford!Mike
